Jan Piszczyk (Bogumił Kobiela), a man seasoned by life's failures, begs the prison warden to let him stay—only behind bars did his bad luck stop tormenting him. Since childhood, he tried to meet the expectations of those around him, but every attempt ended in humiliation: from a scouting parade, through failed love and anti-Semitic riots, to suspicions of espionage during the war. After 1945, he eagerly threw himself into building the People's Poland, but his career was ruined by one unfortunate sentence in a wall newspaper. Despite his pleas, he is thrown out of prison back into freedom. Cross-eyed Luck is one of the most important films of the Polish School, and the role of Piszczyk became Bogumił Kobiela’s acting triumph. With this film, Andrzej Munk confirmed his mastery in creating comedies with a bitter, tragicomic tone.
