Krystyna (Krystyna Janda) is a woman full of contradictions – she loves her 9-year-old son Rafał (Rafał Węgrzyniak), but struggles with the daily responsibilities of motherhood. In the evenings, she frequents clubs, changes partners, and abuses alcohol and medication. In this situation, Rafał becomes the caretaker of his mother: making sure she doesn’t drink, throwing away her pills, and attending to her hygiene. Although they share genuine love, their bond is unnaturally close and marked by a reversal of roles and responsibilities. Society offers no support, and the only close help comes from their elderly neighbor Lena. Among Krystyna’s partners, only Mr. Witek (Krzysztof Zalewski) proves to be sensible and caring, but he fails to prevent the family’s separation – Krystyna ends up in jail, and Rafał in a children’s home. After six months, the situation changes: Krystyna lives with Mr. Witek, who brings order to her life, but Rafał remains outside of this arrangement. On the day of the wedding, Krystyna unexpectedly shows up at her son’s school, and through a subtle exchange of words between her husband and the boy, the three of them are finally able to be together again and set off on a new life together.
