“A Short Film About Love” is the theatrical version of the TV film “Decalogue 6,” which tells the story of a young boy, Tomek, who moves into a rented room and quickly becomes obsessively interested in the woman living opposite him. At first, his fascination with Magda is superficial, driven only by curiosity and youthful desire, but over time it evolves into a deeper feeling. The film focuses on the development of this one-sided, almost pathological obsession, where Tomek begins to spy on Magda—initially with binoculars, later with a stolen telescope. His surveillance becomes increasingly obsessive and pulls him out of the loneliness he experiences as an orphanage ward. Experiencing emotions he has never felt before, the young boy is unable to distinguish between mere fascination and true love, and the film shows how the boundaries between these feelings can blur.
