Director: Andrzej Żuławski
1987
Four astronauts arrive on an unknown planet resembling primordial Earth to establish a new community. Jerzy keeps a video diary that gradually becomes a chronicle of a generation. Years later, their descendants discover indigenous inhabitants, and a subsequent expedition attempts to bring justice – but the mission ends tragically. Andrzej Żuławski’s film is an original adaptation of the science fiction novel by Jerzy Żuławski, the director’s great-uncle. The production, filmed in locations including the Baltic Sea, the Gobi Desert, and the Wieliczka salt mine, achieved cult status thanks to its extraordinary set design, visual imagination, and unique atmosphere, despite being made under difficult and controversial circumstances.
