1981
A young radio journalist (M. Opania) is assigned to prepare a report discrediting Tomczyk (J. Radziwiłowicz), a strike activist at the Gdańsk Shipyard. In the summer of 1980, he tries to get onto the grounds of the striking shipyard, where he meets an old acquaintance (B. Linda) who tells him about Tomczyk. The journalist obtains a pass to visit Tomczyk’s wife, Agnieszka, and the family of an experienced union activist. These encounters lead him to change his mind and reject the assignment. The film also depicts the further fate of the characters from "Man of Marble": Agnieszka, together with her husband—Birkuć’s son—organizes a photo exhibition, and the shipyard strike becomes the realization of the workers’ ideals of dignity and agency, recorded in history as the August 1980 Agreements.
