Director: Andrzej Wajda
1976
In 1976, Andrzej Wajda created a film adaptation of the most famous production by the Cricot 2 Theatre, Tadeusz Kantor’s "The Dead Class." The performance took the form of a collage of images, characterized by vivid visual expression and a carefully crafted orchestration of actors’ movements and sound — with "Walc François" serving as a leitmotif. Inspired by the works of Witkacy, Gombrowicz, and Schulz, the play was a deeply personal artistic statement by Kantor.
