Bolesław lives alone in the forest with his daughter and caretaker Malina (E. Krakowska). One day, his brother Stanisław (O. Łukaszewicz), ill and weakened after a stay at a sanatorium, arrives to spend his last few weeks of life in peace. The presence of the guest disrupts the quiet daily routine, sparking conflicts and unexpected tensions, especially in the relationships with Malina. Wajda’s film is based on a story by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, portraying the clash of human frailty, loneliness, and interpersonal emotions.
