Director: Marek Piwowski
1970
An ordinary boat trip on the Vistula River turns into an absurd "pageant in honor of the captain": citizens can no longer relax without a program—they organize a captain’s celebration, a masquerade ball, a quiz, group gymnastics, and social games. "Rejs" (The Cruise), Marek Piwowski’s feature film debut, was created in an atmosphere of improvisation, with significant contributions from co-writers and actors including Janusz Głowacki, Jerzy Karaszkiewicz, and Stanisław Tym. The film became a cult classic in Poland, and the dialogues of Jan Himilsbach and Zdzisław Maklakiewicz have permanently entered everyday Polish speech as examples of the New Speak of the Polish People’s Republic era.
