Michał endures a tragic ordeal—he witnesses the Germans murder his wife, mother, and son, while he and his father survive by a miracle. While fleeing the occupiers, he finds refuge in an apartment where a woman is giving birth to a child. Michał cares for Marta and her newborn, simultaneously joining the underground resistance, including working at the Weigl Institute. Marta reminds him of his late wife, and Michał struggles to balance his personal responsibilities with dangerous missions—such as attempting to free her wounded husband. Ultimately, he reaches his goal, but his courage comes at a cost: he is shot by a German gendarme. The film tells a story of sacrifice, loss, and heroism during wartime.
