Director: Krzysztof Kieślowski
1993
The story of Julie (Juliette Binoche), who, after a tragic car accident that kills her husband and daughter, is plunged into deep despair. Trying to escape her past, she decides to sever all ties that might bind her to it—abandoning a life of luxury, withdrawing from social life, and attempting to live in solitude, focusing only on basic, everyday tasks. However, she is forced to confront matters left behind by her husband—an unfinished musical composition he was to create for a major European celebration, and his mistress, who is pregnant with Julie's husband's child. As Julie struggles with these issues, she begins to engage with the lives of others, drawing closer to those also abandoned by her husband. The first part of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s "Three Colors" trilogy, created in collaboration with screenwriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz and composer Zbigniew Preisner.
