1932
A historical costume epic based on the novel by Wacław Gąsiorowski, created to mark the centenary of the November Uprising. The film combines a dramatic yet fictional love story—Grand Duke Constantine's wife, Joanna Grudzińska, loves the conspirator Walerian Łukasiński—with historical events. Łukasiński is arrested and tortured but refuses to betray his fellow conspirators. Facing the inevitability of fate, Grand Duke Constantine and Joanna leave the Belweder Palace as the uprising breaks out. The film was acclaimed for its faithful recreation of the era's realities and spectacular military scenes.
