A story of love, freedom, and complicated relationships. A young widow and her daughter Milka live in the countryside, making a living by crafting lace. Both love Krystian, who helps them on the farm, but he values his freedom and avoids commitment. Milka rejects Stefk’s affection, and her mother turns down the organist’s proposal. When Milka becomes pregnant, her mother discovers what once connected her to Krystian. It is a story of love, desire, and social expectations that lead the heroines to difficult choices.
