Structure of Crystal

Two former friends from their physics studies meet after many years in the countryside. Jacek (J. Mysłowicz) has chosen a quiet life as a meteorologist alongside a provincial schoolteacher (B. Wrzesińska), while Marek (A. Żarnecki) is building a prestigious international scientific career and urges his friend to return to city life and professional development. The meeting becomes an opportunity to compare their choices and reflect on the dilemma between active engagement and a contemplative life. In the film, Zanussi shows how the characters’ values and beliefs are tested in everyday situations, with the peaceful rural setting contrasting with inner tensions and the search for one’s own path.
