Shadow

Director: Jerzy Kawalerowicz

1956

91 min.
b&w

The film begins with the mysterious death of a man on the train tracks, his face brutally mutilated. This violent event triggers the memories of a doctor, a police officer, and others, who start to connect past, enigmatic stories from the occupation period, post-war chaos, and the present day. It soon becomes clear that all these stories share a common thread, and a mysterious figure from the past holds the key to the mystery. Gradually revealing dark connections across different eras, the film shows how a brutal history still casts its shadow over the present, and how uncovering the truth behind the death on the tracks leads to the discovery of deeply buried secrets.
