In August 1980, a renowned writer (Z. Zapasiewicz) is asked by the television to comment on the relationship between the creator and society. The protagonist hesitates whether to appear on the state media or to go to Gdańsk to support the striking shipyard workers. It is his wife who openly confronts him with his fear, opportunism, and conservatism, forcing him to reflect on his own conscience. In October, the writer waits outside the Provincial Court in Warsaw for the registration of the NSZZ "Solidarity." In the crowd, he notices an SB officer (S. Manturzewski) who had observed him decades earlier. Their encounter leads to a conversation about an old provocation from 1953 and reveals how history intertwines with the present. The film was made in 1982 but was not shown on television until 1990 due to censorship. It contains authentic fragments of archival footage documenting the birth of "Solidarity."
