Marianna (Dorota Stalińska), known as “Pearl,” is released from prison and starts working at a social care home for the elderly. On her way back to Praga, she encounters her mother (Iga Cembrzyńska), still drowning in alcohol, as well as old acquaintances who pressure her into petty theft. Her attempts to find support from a probation officer fail—the woman is unable to help her. Marianna forms a closer relationship with Marek (Krzysztof Pieczyński), a nurse who, while waiting for his own apartment, lives in a makeshift shack. Meanwhile, the care home undergoes an inspection by representatives of Solidarity, searching for irregularities in allocations and among party beneficiaries. Faced with mounting tensions, Marek’s secrets, and mounting pressure, Marianna feels trapped and exhausted—her frustration and anger finally erupt within the care home, filling it with screams.
