After the war, the town in the Recovered Territories resembles a desert – ruins, landmines, hunger, and fear shape everyday life. Emilia (M. Komorowska), a widow caring for her ailing mother (H. Skarżanka), tries to find a safe place for herself. The town is also home to a unit of American soldiers, conducting an investigation into murdered pilots. Norman (S. Wilson), a former prisoner of a German camp, sees nobility and gentleness in Emilia. Their connection grows despite the language barrier – they communicate through looks, gestures, and a few words. Translators fail to capture the subtlety of their relationship. Meanwhile, the women face threats from looters and the UB (Security Office). Norman suggests they escape across the green border, and each character must confront their own moral and emotional dilemmas when deciding whether to seize this chance.
