Marian Grzyb, a peasant’s son who returns to the village as a teacher after completing his studies, distances himself from tradition. He introduces electrification, teaches children and adults, showcases a modern lifestyle on television, and transforms the village into a resort for city tourists. However, the villagers prefer the rustic charm, turning it into an open-air museum and throwing mud at Marian. His childhood friend, Malwina, becomes a modern woman and his lover. The protagonist struggles to cope with the new ways of life, while the young marry in a traditional ceremony, realizing that they themselves have become part of a performance for the visitors. The comedy is based on Edward Redliński’s grotesque-realistic novel of the same name (1973).
