A moving story set in Silesia in the mid-1930s, intertwining themes of love and social struggle. The main characters are Jaś and his wife, a young couple with two small children, who lead a modest yet happy life under the harsh conditions of the mining region. Their world is turned upside down when the mine where Jaś works is slated for closure. Shortly after the announcement, the miners go on strike, and Jaś and his colleagues take a stand to fight for their rights, determined to prevent the shutdown. Facing brutal repression and resistance from the German mine owners, the miners resort to a hunger strike. Though their voices fail to reach the authorities, they refuse to give up and persist in their struggle. The film combines a lyrical tale of Jaś and his wife’s love with the historical backdrop of Polish miners’ fight for dignity and survival. It also serves as a continuation of themes from "Salt of the Black Earth," revealing the immense sacrifices made by those committed to social causes during a time when life in Silesia was inseparably linked to the battle for justice and freedom.
