In 1914, in Krakow, Filipek – a bouncer at a wine bar – meets Recki, a young student from Zurich who decides to abandon his studies to fight for Poland's freedom. During one of the battles, Recki is injured, and Filipek carries him to a nearby manor. Although the landowner initially wants nothing to do with the "madmen," his daughter hides Recki in her room. When the manor is occupied by the Russians, the landowner’s son helps the fugitive escape. Over time, the trio of heroes, coming from different worlds, fight together, becoming a symbol of unity and sacrifice during World War I. The film tells the extraordinary story of people who, faced with war, forgot social differences and joined forces for a common cause.
