Departure
Director: Magdalena Łazarkiewicz
1991
In Masuria, in a care home, a mother and daughter live together – Augusta and Hilda. Both are Masurians, yet their identities differ: Hilda feels Polish, while Augusta increasingly identifies as German. Among the other residents, they face hostility, and an old acquaintance, Gozdek, never misses a chance to humiliate them. Hilda's only friend is a young disabled man named Mirek, who is learning German from her. One day, Augusta decides to return to her family home. Convinced it’s just another whim, Hilda eventually relents, and together they set off on a journey meant to bring them peace and reconciliation with the past.
