Krzysztof Buk, a young man, changes schools for the third time. This time, due to distributing leaflets from the Gdańsk shipyard, he ends up at a high school in a small town. He is placed in a graduating class that turns out to be notably unruly and politically unaware. Krzysztof, being the son of a victim of the December 1970 strikes, quickly becomes an outsider. He convinces his new classmates that their jokes are shallow and their approach to life unreflective. Soon, he grows close to "Świr," a musically talented boy who has endured a difficult life with a political officer father. Krzysztof soon becomes involved with a group that, under the influence of their music teacher “Meluzyna,” decides to stage a politically charged musical performance. This is meant to be their manifesto against the system. Meanwhile, "Świr" begins to sense the dangers of surveillance, and his stance leads to tragic consequences. The film explores themes of youthful rebellion, confrontation with the system, and the fight for freedom of expression. The characters face challenges that not only test their values but also force them to make difficult decisions that could change their lives forever.
