Adam Małecki, a lecturer and head of the biology department specializing in cancer research, is suddenly admitted to the hospital due to a serious kidney illness. From his previous position as a respected scientific authority, he must confront the daily humiliations of patient life and come to understand the world of others awaiting a transplant. Although he initially tries to maintain distance from doctors and fellow patients, his experience with illness and the confrontation with his own mortality change his perspective—Małecki discovers that everyone shares a similar fate, regardless of status or knowledge.
