Little Janek builds a cage and steals sparrow chicks, wanting to keep them for himself. It is only during a nature lesson that he learns how important birds are and how much harm he has caused them. Realizing his mistake, he frees the chicks, and the cage is transformed into a bird feeder and hung in a birch grove.
