The film tells the story of a group of prisoners of war in one of the stalags in 1940, who decide to organize their own illegal Olympics. Holding the games in a camp where the prisoners are forced to work in quarries becomes their way of surviving morally and spiritually under the brutal conditions of occupation. Despite strict prohibitions from the German guards, the prisoners organize sporting competitions, creating their own emblems, commemorative pennants, and "anthems." The events take place in secret, with an increasing number of participants and spectators. A new, harsh overseer, Otto Schultz, arrives at the camp with the goal of boosting quarry work productivity. Soon he discovers that one of the prisoners, Piotr, is a former athlete who once competed against him in the Olympics. Schultz offers Piotr better treatment in exchange for cooperation, but Piotr refuses the offer while continuing to organize the Olympics. The competitions proceed despite bans and brutal reprisals, with the final event being the "frog jump," a punishment imposed by the German oppressors on the prisoners. For organizing the games, Piotr is sentenced to the penal camp. The film explores the theme of human resistance and the spirit of freedom even in the most extreme wartime conditions, showing how prisoners, stripped of hope, find it again in the idea of the Olympic Games.
