After years apart, former students reunite at a medical academy alumni ball. Among them is Andrzej Leszczyc, along with four others—each known by a distinctive nickname: Zastawa, Opel Rekord, Alfa, Romeo, and Wartburg. Their names reveal much about their lives: who has achieved what and how much they gained during the calmer years of the 1960s. At the ball, memories from the past resurface. When they were students, as part of a community service project, they painted a portrait of Stalin—and not just any portrait, but one accidentally rendered with double pairs of eyes. Now adults and settled, those youthful mischiefs become a point of reference that exposes their characters, ambitions, and small fears. The ball is not merely an occasion to meet—it is also a mirror reflecting their past and who they have become over the years.
