Director: Agnieszka Holland
1980
"Fever" by Agnieszka Holland is a film based on Andrzej Strug's novel "The Story of One Bullet," written after the defeat of the 1905 revolution. The film depicts the fate of a group of PPS revolutionaries preparing an assassination attempt on the tsarist governor. The titular bullet becomes a pretext to explore the complex relationships between ideology, politics, and morality. The bomb, intended as a tool in the fight for freedom, brings only destruction and tragic consequences. Characters such as the group's leader (Olgerd Łukaszewicz) and the mentally shattered Kama (Barbara Grabowska) must confront moral dilemmas and the repercussions of their actions. The film raises questions about the limits of sacrifice in the name of an ideal and where the struggle for freedom ends and cynicism and opportunism begin. "Fever" is a timeless tale about the price of revolution, whose effects extend beyond the events themselves to touch contemporary societies—an aspect that gained added significance after 1980.
