Helena Kowalska was born in 1905 and showed deep religious devotion and a desire for the convent life from a very young age. Upon joining the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, she took the name Faustina. However, she soon encountered the harsh realities of convent life – alongside prayer, fasting, and doing good, she also experienced envy, pride, and human weakness. Despite these disappointments, she remained faithful to her calling and unwaveringly trusted in God. Sister Faustina experienced numerous visions and conversed with Christ, which was initially met with skepticism by her superiors and confessor, who even suggested psychiatric evaluations. Nevertheless, she worked diligently, dedicating herself fully to prayer and service. At the age of 33, Sister Faustina died of tuberculosis. Her veneration gradually grew, although the Church initially approached it with caution. Thanks to the efforts of Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, the beatification process began. On April 18, 1993, John Paul II declared her Blessed, and on April 30, 2000, he canonized her as a saint.
