A film adaptation of Jerzy Stefan Stawiński’s novel "Notes of a Young Varsovian on His Birthday." On September 24, 1938, Jurek, a freshly minted high school graduate, celebrates his seventeenth birthday. His father plans for him to study at the Sorbonne, but Jurek chooses to join the military service at the Signal Officer Cadet School. A year later, on his eighteenth birthday, Jurek takes part in the defense of Warsaw, repairing telephone lines under fire. In the shadow of war, he reunites with former close friends and meets Teresa—a girl who will change his life.
