Kasia (G. Błęcka-Kolska) is taking exams to study pedagogy in Warsaw, but her parents in the countryside have arranged a marriage for her with a wealthy neighbor. Due to a misunderstanding, Kasia believes she has failed to get into university and agrees to the imposed plan. However, on the eve of the wedding, she receives news of her acceptance and flees to Warsaw, where she becomes the caretaker of little Piotruś at the home of docent Wolański (Z. Wardejn). Neither his emancipated mother (E. Kasprzyk) nor his elegant grandmother (M. Lorentowicz) can care for the boy as well as Kasia can. The young protagonist tries to balance her studies, work, and a love that unexpectedly begins to blossom.
