"Two Gentlemen N" is the second postwar Polish crime film—after Stanisław Bareja’s Touch of the Night—based on real events. The film stands out with its gripping plot, numerous twists, detailed depiction of the investigation process, and a credible portrayal of the social realities of the era. The scenes were shot on location, and attempts to use a "hidden camera" failed due to curious passersby. The protagonist of the film is Kazimierz Dziewanowicz, a mortgage clerk with an unusual hobby—collecting information about people born on February 29th. His passion leads to tragedy when he discovers the existence of two men with the exact same name, differing only in their professions. Trying to unravel the mystery, he visits one of them and is murdered the same day. Among the suspects is his son, Sergeant Janek Dziewanowicz. The case is pursued through two parallel investigations: the official one led by the Internal Security Corps (WSW), and a private inquiry by the victim’s son.
