Toad's Prophecies

In 1989, German art researcher Alexander Reschke arrives in Gdańsk to investigate the extraordinary tombstone of Mayor Daniel Gralath, which gained fame for depicting all five of the mayor’s wives nude on the gravestone. Fascinated by the mystery of this artwork, Alexander sets out to delve into its history. However, upon arrival, his journey descends into unexpected chaos: he loses his luggage, misses his transportation, and the city he once knew now feels foreign. The streets he remembers bear Polish names, and he finds himself lost in this new Gdańsk. By chance, he meets Aleksandra, a heritage conservator whose work is also tied to the city’s history. Together, they begin to explore the fate of Gralath, his tombstone, and the forgotten past of Gdańsk. Their encounter draws them into a world of mysteries unresolved by time, and their own stories intertwine in a search that goes beyond the artwork—becoming a journey of discovering each other and reclaiming the history of a shattered city.
