Director: Krzysztof Kieślowski
1979
The film tells the story of a man, a modest supply clerk, who unexpectedly discovers a passion for documenting the everyday life of his newborn daughter. Using an amateur camera, he begins recording every moment of her life—from her first days, through playtime, to the small, everyday interactions—that become for him more than just simple documentation—they become his passion, his way of life. His cinematic obsession does not go unnoticed. Over time, it draws the attention of his workplace management as well as television. What began as an unassuming, home-made record of personal moments evolves into something that starts to attract professional interest. Kieślowski gently reveals how an innocent pastime, like filming one’s own family, can transform into something greater, while also clashing the private sphere of life with the pressures of the outside world.
