Director: Janusz Kidawa
1981
The film revisits the case of the "Vampire of Zagłębie" – Zdzisław Marchwicki, who murdered 14 women in the 1960s. Despite intense investigations, the killer remained elusive for a long time, and the case became one of the most mysterious in the history of the Polish People's Republic. The film reconstructs these events, combining archival materials with statements from police officers and experts who tracked the perpetrator for seven years. The codename "Anna," given to this operation, referred to the first victim. The film not only depicts the pursuit of the murderer but also portrays the atmosphere of fear in the Zagłębie Dąbrowskie region and the inefficiency of a system that failed to capture the culprit for years. "Anna and the Vampire" is a story about crime, justice, and the fear that dominated the lives of the region’s inhabitants.
