Doctor Jan Mańkiewicz, a devoted caretaker of an orphanage in a small town, meets the famous actress Lena Merwińska. Their love forces the doctor to face a dramatic choice between love and his calling. To be with Lena, he would have to abandon the children and start a career in the capital. At first, he follows his heart, but at the decisive moment, his sense of duty prevails—Mańkiewicz returns to the orphanage. Moved by his sacrifice, Merwińska gives up her international contracts and decides to share her life with him, dedicating herself to caring for the children.
